I really like this quote…

“We travel for romance, we travel for architecture, and we travel to be lost.” – Ray Bradbury

Travel for me has been exciting and it has changed my perspective on life, love, and friendship. Over the past 20 years or so, I’ve traveled with friends, with partners, and solo. My best trips included unexpected places, interesting food, and cultural diversity. So, here are my thoughts on the different travel adventures that I’ve had…and will do more of in the future.

“Life is meant for good friends and great adventures” – Anonymous

When I travel with friends, it’s usually to have a good time and celebrate our friendships or a life event or escape our day-to-day existence. You book a flight, plan for exciting and fun things to do, and stay in a lively hotel or other accommodation. So, in this scenario, it’s all about spending time with your friends and generally just having a fabulous time.

When I travel with a partner, it’s about the romance and togetherness. Exploring, relaxing, having couple’s adventures (some tame and others thrilling). This type of trip is usually planned out a bit more. Flights for 2, romantic hotel, charming or exotic things to do or places to see, romantic dinners. For me, this type of travel adventure is about spending quality time as a couple, learning, experiencing new things and being together. Romance is alive and well, right?

When I travel solo, I like to think about it as an adventure and an exercise in independence. There’s no one else to coordinate with and no one else to plan with. You could look at this as a scary thought or you could embrace the thought of getting outside your comfort zone and meet the challenge head on. Once you actually book the solo flight and the hotel or Airbnb or whatever you choose, it’s just the task of getting there and exploring a new place. When you go to dinner, don’t sit at a table alone, eat at the bar so you can meet and converse with locals. Go on excursions where you can explore and learn about the city or area where you are. Solo doesn’t have to be intimidating…embrace your free spirit!

I think with all of these scenarios there is an adventure waiting for you to take. Do it! I’ve been on many solo trips and although it can be exhilarating and offer personal growth, I do like to share my experiences and exciting encounters with others. It can definitely be fun to get “lost” in an exotic location with a special person or explore new exciting places with friends. So, whatever you choose, make it special and go for it! You will never regret taking a trip and exploring the world. I can’t wait to go on another adventure as soon as possible!

Cheers!
